This ‘hidden’ rooftop terrace, right behind Plaza Mayor, is becoming quite well-known thanks to its perfect location and hip and laid-back vibe Located on the 5th floor of The Hat Hostel, this modern bar is equipped with, tables, lounges, couches and more. There is a fun atmosphere that attracts a cool crowd of young travelers and also locals to this “hipster” spot. We love the selection of coffee, cocktails as Mojito and Caipirinha. But if you work up an appetite, give a try to some of their delicious tapas like patatas bravas and to their original meatballs cooked with beer, while enjoying the fabulous Madrid sunset! Located on the top floor of the B&B Hotel, this space offers privileged views over Puerta del Sol, in addition to a careful selection of dishes influenced by Latin cuisine. In Doña Luz every detail has been carefully chosen, with hand-carved wooden tables, Goa de Cutipol cutlery, Cookplay crockery and even sustainable Duni napkins. It also has vertical gardens with plants from Africa, Europe and Asia. With 18 infra-red heating points, the restaurant is also perfectly fitted out to withstand the winter low temperatures. Last but not least, far from the fast-food chains that are plentiful in the area, this restaurant goes for the quality and authenticity of their ingredients, giving a special role to South American cuisine: Chorizos criollos, arepas de pollo and cecina croquettes, among others. Address: Calle de la Montera, 10, 12

La Casa Encendida is a social and cultural center open to audiences of all ages and where visitors can find some of today's most groundbreaking artistic expressions, as well as educational, philosophical and debating activities. Since its inauguration in 2002, the roof of La Casa Encendida, under the name La Terraza Magnética, brings a complete calendar of cultural events during the summer months. Inspired by the exhibition A Vegetal Encounter, this year the audience is invited to explore humanity's relationship with nature throughout history. Discover the full agenda of films and concerts that will take place on their website. They also have taken care of creating a functional and attractive space, valid both to eat informally with some of its basics (tomato confit with mozzarella, hummus with scolding, mortadella table truffle with parmesan or Russian salad), as for a cocktail with friends, while enjoying the sunset between the roofs of Lavapiés. There are also homemade ice creams, smoothies and cakes (cheesecake and tiramisu), and at more than reasonable prices. Address: Ronda de Valencia, 2

Casa de Granada

One of those hidden spots in Madrid that are worth knowing. On the sixth floor of an average office building, the elevator will bring you to a cozy restaurant that follows to a unique terrace with views of Tirso de Molina Square and Lavapiés neighborhood in front of you. Casa de Granada has that Andalusian charm that will make easy to spend a few hour there chatting with friends while admiring the views. Also, the restaurant offers a quality selection of traditional Spanish tapas (croquetas, huevos rotos, pimientos de padrón, or calamares) and drinks. Remember that the terrace is usually filled quickly, especially at lunchtime and dinner, so we recommend going a little earlier if you plan to eat there. Address: Calle del Dr. Cortezo, 17.
